Electric Space Weather Baffles Scientists

Atmospheric researchers are puzzled by a newly discovered form of space weather observed over the African continent. This strange new phenomenon is the "ion plume" -- a form of "electrified gas" (plasma) in Earth's atmosphere that is so high above ground it makes contact with space itself.
